Job Description
Sumaria Systems is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support advanced systems engineering and digital engineering initiatives. The successful candidate will be part of our Innovation Lab, applying Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles and established software engineering practices to develop and maintain authoritative system models.
The primary focus of this role is creation and maintenance of SysML-based system models that serve as the technical baseline and replace traditional document-centric engineering approaches.
Key Responsibilities
Participate in a requirements-driven, iterative systems engineering process supporting planning, design, development, integration, and sustainment activities.
Develop, maintain, and deliver editable SysML-format models in accordance with MBSE style guidance, ensuring complete requirement traceability and clear definition of system interfaces.
Build system architectures to the replaceable component level and model software behavior at the product/module level as required.
Use system models as the authoritative source for design reviews, requirements tracking, configuration management, cybersecurity analysis, and engineering change activities.
Support System Requirements Reviews (SRR), Engineering Design Reviews (EDR), and related technical reviews, including preparation of technical data deliverables.
Perform requirements analysis, decomposition, allocation, and traceability; develop and maintain Requirements Traceability Verification Matrices (RTVM).
Support detailed design activities including interface definition, module decomposition, algorithm representation, and verification planning.
Collaborate closely with software engineers, system architects, and program leadership to ensure model fidelity and technical consistency.
Support proposal and capture activities related to systems engineering and MBSE capabilities, as required.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline (advanced degree preferred).
Systems engineering experience in complex technical or defense environments.
Demonstrated hands-on experience developing SysML models using MBSE methodologies (not just model consumers or reviewers).
Strong understanding of requirements management, interface control, and model-based architecture development.
Experience supporting technical reviews and managing system baselines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Active Secret clearance required.
Desired Qualifications / Certifications
INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP).
OMG Certified Systems Modeling Professional (OCSMP).
Experience working within digital engineering ecosystems (model governance, configuration control, and model lifecycle management).
Familiarity with modern MBSE tools (e.g., Cameo Systems Modeler, MagicDraw, or equivalent).
